gen 1 Lightning help
I just acquired a 93 Lightning from a customer that i would like to sort out and get running proper. Picked it up sight unseen with almost no history other then it has new red top injectors, new fuel tanks and pumps as well as fuel press reg. Guy i got it from had it at his auto shop and did misc work to it but never got to far because owner flaked out and did not keep up with bills on items done, my friend had no choice but to lean on it and take title. I picked it up in a trade deal and truth be told wanted it to do a Bronco Lightning (full size Broncs are my main thing). After getting it dropped of its far far to nice to take apart, its a bit weathered and has some crappy graphic treatment on the sides but very clean (maybe six or eight square inches of rust on entire truck. except for some surface stuff on hood and bumper the cab and bed are pretty clean, had a bedliner in from new that i just took out and bed floor is perfect. I would like to get it running proper but would consider swapping it for cash and a ratted out but complete gen one lightning in case any readers are interested. For now id like to sort out issues though
Current situation, at some point it appears to have had a fairly OEM looking speed density to mass air conversion done on it but other then seeing it has a MAF thats all i know of it. Knowing these were SD i assumed it was converted as it also has some other mods, Basani dual exh and a 4.10 gear to name a few. Truck will start and run rough with MAF un hooked and will not run with it hooked up or becomes very difficult to start. MAF has the numbers F50F-12B579-AA AFH80-01A SM28 if that helps and truck has maybe 70K miles on it.
My question is where can i find diagrams or info on doing the conversion to help me sort this out? Also any fox body mechanics near NW Ohio that come recommended? Thanks all . . . ohhh shes a cream puff lol
You can check for codes to start. It would be good to see it the ECU is still original to the kit: AKC0 and not some other MAF truck ecu, because those are programmed for 19lb injectors. Also, put a vacuum gauge on it and see what readings you get at idle.
i stopped by my mech shop this morning and looking at it again i think the injectors are pink, at least they look more pink then red. He also found two or three injectors that were not plugged in proper (retainer clip missing) so now it starts and runs with MAF hooked up but not really drive-able. Going to excavate the ECU and see what one is in it next. I am assuming AKCO should be a prefix on it somewhere? Also it is showing no codes at the moment.
Despite having had this hideous graphics treatment the body is in very good condition. Cab floors/rockers/mounts and stuff are near perfect and the bed has had a fiberglass cap and bedliner since new. I pulled the berlined the other day and the bed floor is near perfect with zero rust or dents and just a bunch of silicon tracked all over from when the put the liner in. Wheels are nice to, biggest bummer is the paint (i own a custom paint bodyshop) and the missing rear bumper. Interior is pretty good although a fresh carpet set is in the future but seats are free from stains or damage.
Nice find on the GEN 1! It'll be hard to find a factory tube bumper, but the rest of what you have can definitely be restored.

got it running good yesterday, changed all fluids and got the old fuel and filters out of it. The fuel in the tank was very old and was a white milky color. Did a cap/rotor/wires tune up and she runs good, took it for a quick spin thing runs like a scalded dog. Very impressed with this ol truck.

by the way what is the popular tire size for these things? More meat? Less sidewall and wider? whats everyone doing? I just realized this is the first 2wd truck i have ever owned lol

For some reason i thought they had 3.70's and there was an invoice for a new diff and some 4.10 gears along with the exhaust. I drove it again yesterday over at my mechanics shop, gettin pretty excited about this thing
