Bushings?

I am experiencing a slight problem with my 98 explorer sport. As i roll over roads that are moderately bumpy, i get a chirping sound from the front end. it is really high pitched, and for the most part is only noticeable by me. i am fairly sure that this is not a serious situation, but would definitely like to avoid one. if anyone has any tips i would greatly appreciate it.

Just a shot in the dark, here. Loose hubcap? I've never gotten a sound like that from the suspension, but I guess it's possible.

Watch TV last night?

They did an expose on the Durango upper ball joint. Some reported a chirping before failure. Pretty rare on later Explorers though the lower ball joints do wear a lot. Just bought the parts to do my 97 lowers this week. Any driveability problems? Could be shock or sway bar bushings.

Thanks for the replies. The hubcap isn't an issue - since i have custom wheels. And to date i haven't experienced any negative effects, just annoyance. I will check out the ball joints though.

I recently heard through a friend that a mixture of alcohol and graphite will provide lubricant qualities to the bushings, and may solve my problem. Anyone heard of that?

FWIW, I had a "chirp" in the front end of my BII that turned out to be a loose shock mounting bolt. Tightened the bolt and the chirp dissappeared. I guess my point is, before spending a lot of money on parts, get under the front real quick and make sure everything is tight.

98 ball joints not greaseable ,common failure is the lower ones ,if you can find a grease needle ,you can get a couple 1000 miles out of them
but as stated replace with moog parts ,their greaseable.

Just did my lower ball joints today. What a pain pressing the old ones out. Wouldn't be so bad if you removed the CV axle. Tying stuff out of the way for space isn't easy. I used a Harbor Freight ball joint removal C clamp. Had to turn down my own adaptors to get it to fit. Got the job done but wouldn't recommend this tool to others who are looking for plug-n-play.
