I've got a 64 F100 with a 223, I'm second owner and the truck has <91k miles. Just finished my new shop, except the lift, and I'm planning on a tear down of the truck to overhaul the chassis and repair underbody rust. One of the things in planning is relocating the fuel tank, a fuel delivery upgrade and dump the Load-O-matic distributor. The universal 1904 carbs seem like an economical swap, or a Clifford performance package is tempting and the new Holley 1100 Sniper is also in the running. Who out there has tried these options and what were your results??
Hi SSgt82-02, I put up with an Autolite 1100 carb for too long in my '65 F100 2WD. I rebuilt a YF Carter 1V manual choke carb. Biggest thing I did was turning a screw down all the way so accel. pump would actually work. My truck does well with this carb. My motor is a 240 I6. I also put a pair of cast iron headers on. Just doing that helps the motor breath. The difference is really remarkable. I have a dist. with points. I like it simple. I also am using the oil bath air filter.
My buddy at the local O'Rielly store said he has sold the Pertronix (sp ?). The customers have not seen much difference in power. So, I am keeping the tried and proven dist/points, etc.
I considered a new alum. intake and 2V carb. I had the Tomco, I-92 carb in a box. Thought I'd rebuild it first. See how that would work out. It is fine, can't see spending the $ now since the Carter YF is working fine.
All the Best, Pete
I have installed the Holley EFI system and am very satisfied with the performance, I got tired of dealing with typical carburetor issues, yes it was a significant investment but after doing research it seemed like the best option for my situation.
Hi 66ordie,
Would you take a few minutes and tell me about your EFI system ? Is there more power from the EFI ? If yes, a noticeable amount ? What engine do you have ?
Thanks, Pete

ill do my best, the main reason I installed the EFI was due to carb issues constantly, and I had some quality carbs on there nothing generic at all. So after researching it I decided that was my best route, the motor is an FE 390, I do notice a significant performance difference with it, however when I installed the EFI it was the same time as other mods were done so I’m not savy enough to tell you if it was a combination of everything or just the EFI. The other mods were headers, front pulley system, different transmission, I will say it’s very nice to be able to turn the key and go, without having to make adjustments due to it sitting for long periods of time. I’m not sure if that helped but that’s the short story. My brother is about to install one on his chevelle that he auto crosses because many of the folks he runs with swears by them, they are pricey but I think for me it was money well spent. I hope that helps.
Hi 66ordie,
Ty for your answer. I put a pair of cast iron headers on my 240-I6. It was the only change I made. The motor "breathes" so much better ! From my experience...the headers do not allow exhaust gases from going into future cylinders that are taking in new air/gas for the compression stroke is making all the difference. The one port original log exh. mnfld. kept supplying exhaust gases to future intake strokes. Staying with my newly rebuilt YF Carter.
All the best, Pete :-)
