I haven’t been on the forum for several years, finally got back on here. My buddy just picked up an 88 f250 with the 5.8. The factory vacuum diagram sticker is gone off the hood so we will definitely need to find one if anyone has a copy laying around they can scan. Also, is the egr really needed on these trucks? Is there a way you can delete and cap off all the egr lines and risers from the exhaust manifold ports? We’re in Texas in an emission free area so we’re not too worried about that. Just trying to simplify fords brilliant engineering from the late 80’s.
side note, what is this line for? Assuming crossover tube for something egr related but it was just open and blowing exhaust all over this harness loom
The EGR on these trucks consists of 1 valve and tube located at the front passenger side of the engine, all the stuff you are referring to is part of the air injection system. None of that stuff is necessary if the stock cats are gone and no it's not OK to leave it open like that, you need to plug that if you don't remove it.

well the truck is completely stock, only 122k miles and that’s verified with service history but it’s had a lot of sitting and a lot of sitting in the sun in it’s life. It’s going to stay stock for a while as this is a low budget thing. The line thats open didn’t have anything on it when he got the truck. I’m assuming the line that went from that crossover tube to the secondary air was missing. I just need to know what goes there and where I can find it as there is only one 5.8 in the local junkyard and it’s already missing the engine.
So I guess my next question is does the truck need the secondary air injection crap or can that go? He’s used to old square body chevys that are considerably simpler than these so if he can clean that stuff out and get rid of it without killing performance or dumping lots of money he will.
Personally I own an 81 f150 and it has none of this stuff. So I am of no help to him besides some body, interior, and drivetrain outside of the engine
