Can someone tell me were the EGR vaule is on a 97 4.0. It looks like it is on the driver side to me but not sure I have right thing. After running test I get reading stuck, open EGR vaule but I took what I think is egr and it is not stuck it is free and clean any ideas
Hey there Bill4Ford and welcome to the Forum! The EGR will be located on top of the engine. Most are vacuum operated and their function is to draw exhaust gas into the intake manifold. Newer models have chainged over to electrical operation, but the function is still the same. Since you are getting a Stuck Open reading, I would think your's is operated by electricity. Vacuum is used on the non-electrical type and operates in the open position.
It should be a round object with either a vacuum hose or elecrical terminal in the center of it. With it usually being mounted to the intake system and a steel tube that is connected to the exhaust system. I don't have a picture of one, but a moderator will stop by and see that you'll see one. These guys are good!!
Hey Rockledge! Thanks for the pic buddy. I hope it was ok to DL it for future ref. If not, I'll delete it.
Bill- You have 2 choices....
Voltage check. With the engine running, check the voltage at the EGR. If the voltage isn't marked on the EGR, it should be in your manual.
Continuity. Remove the wire going to the EGR and with the engine shut off. Set your meter to ohms, visual and audio if have that option on your meter. One probe to the terminal of the EGR itself (not the wire yet) and one probe to the Body of the EGR. If you have a constant Reading, write it down for ref. The EGR is Bad. The ohms reading should start with one reading, then drop to 0 (zero) for proper continuity. Now you can do the wire. Probe the terminal and the other to the junction block on the firewall or fender. Thats, just a test to see if the wire is shorted.
As far as iI know, there Isn't a fuse or ciucuit breaker for the EGR.
Good luck and get back to us with some results ok......
Bill, have yout thought about the possibility of a faulty DPFE sensor? Many times an EGR-related code can be traced to a bad DPFE. It's worth considering, anyway.
