I believe I have my VIN figured out for the F250 I've ordered.
My question is the 4th position is an 8. And I understand the F250 would typically be a 7 in position #4, and the 4th position for a F350 would be an 8.
Would this be because I ordered the High Capacity Trailer Tow package?
Position 4 is used to indicate the restraint system used in the vehicle. An 8 indicates Manual belts with driver and passenger frontal air bags and side inflatable restraint (1st & 2nd row). This link is a good resource to fully decode all of the VIN position items Ford Fleet Vin Decoder . Positions 5-7 will indicate the model with W2B indicating an F-250 4x4 CC SRW.

TIA for any help here.
im with you in that your VIN is a little confusing .... because your 5,6,7th numbers are W2B you have an f250 but the 8 in position 4 indicates a GVWR of 10,000 to 14000 lbs.

I believe it's because the High Capacity Trailer Tow has the same springs with aux spring and axle in the rear as the F350. And the Camper Package adds the heavy service front end.
It's strange because the F250 with the HCTT and CP is essentially a F350.
I am real curious as to what my payload sticker will read.

The F250 HCTT does equip the rear suspension like the F350 but I think the F250 with HCTT and CP will have a lower GVWR than the F350. Folks that choose the F250 with HCTT and CP over the F350 typically do it to keep the GVWR down for registration and/or insurance benefits.
Since payload = GVWR - curb weight, the payload for the F250 with HCTT and CP will be lower than the F350. I hope that helps.

Yes helps much.
My truck is the 10,800 GVWR. And with a base curb weight at 7,262 (with the 6.7) = a payload capacity of 3,538. Of course the curb weight will be higher based on my equipment and options added. But I believe it's safe to assume I should see a payload capacity at or close to 3,000 lbs.
If there's an insurance or registration benefit that will be great But I went with the F250 because I'll be towing a 6,200 lb travel trailer. And along with tongue weight, passengers, and cargo...I should be plenty good within my payload capacity. And this works even if I were to step up a little in camper size a few years down the road.
No intention of towing a 5th wheel with this truck and I did not add the 5er prep equipment. (with an eye towards payload capacity)

It depends on your truck configuration (see below) and options. For example, if you ordered a crewcab short bed 4x4 in Lariat rim with other popular options, the official as-built payload spec will be ~3,000 lbs.
