Hit a Deer

This morning on the way to work I hit a deer going about 30 MPH. Looks like the damage is contained to the front bumper and plastic insert around the tow hooks. The deer got thrown in other lane and hit by another car and sprayed my truck with the guts. Everyone is fine except for the deer.

Already called the insurance company and running it through them. Truck is still driveable, however i'm concerned with how long its going to take to get a replacement bumper from the factory. Anyone have to get any body work done yet from dealer on a 2021? Truck is a 2021 F-250 7.3, Lariat Black appearance.

Thanks

That sucks! In 2002, I hit a deer with my 16 hour old 2003 truck, never even got to see it in full daylight. Only had 60 miles on it. He ran into the side of me and went down the whole side of the truck from the driver's door all the way back. Had to drive the truck smashed for 2 months until they could get parts in. Hope you get your truck fixed fast.

It shows 16 of the primed bumpers available from the DC in Tennessee available to ship. The upper plastic trim and the tow hook covers show April 28th. Other stock may exist and often does but I can't see that inventory. Should be a easy repair.

Sorry, buddy. I hit a dog once. I felt worse for the dog than for my car, but I was driving an 8 year old car at the time.

If you were planning on installing an aftermarket bumper at some point, this may be the ideal time since you'll have the insurance check to offset the cost of the new bumper.

Great idea! Beef it up with a solid enhancement.

Every vehicle we have ever owned has been hit by a deer... except my wife's 2018 Escape. Only 18,000 miles.

We wait.....

I would never put a minor accident like that through insurance. You'll end up paying for it five times in increased premiums.

Well it's not a accident so it won't raise the rates. This is no different then a glass claim. It is covered by the comprehensive portion of your insurance.

That deer was really moving...

That sucks. At least the damage all appears to be bolt on parts, so inconvenience, dealing w/ insurance and parts availability.

That is disappointing on new truck but it happens.

Several years ago during Deer season a friend in a new Dodge Ram had 3 deer run into the side of his truck as they were being pushed out of a standing cornfield by hunters.
The truck had dents and slobber all down the drivers side and all 3 deer got up and ran off.

You’re right. I wasn’t thinking.

True, but an interesting fact (at least in NY) that was shared by an insurance agent in an article on the subject:
If I hit a deer it is covered under my comprehensive coverage.
If I hit a deer that was first hit by another vehicle it is covered under my collision coverage.

So applying that to this case, the front end damage from the initial hit with the deer falls under comprehensive, the damage to the other car from hitting the deer would be covered under their collision and any damage from the deer splatter along the side of the OP's truck from the deer striking the other car would be covered under the OP's collision coverage.

Yeah, tell that to State Farm. I hit a deer at 60 with the wife's Xterra a few years back... $12K in damage later it was fixed... A year later they dropped us because we cost them too much to insure with the deer strike.
