Bummer.... I mean to go through a day like that and come home to find the liquor cabinet depleted would be more than a human can take.
Now be sure to put away all firearms and incendive devices before you go on a bender tonite - you may wake up to find a smoldering pile where your beloved truck used to be.
The optimist in me says - yeah that sure sucks. But be glad you weren't loading crap in the bed when the wind blew the door over, breaking your neck or decapitating you. Be glad it was a Camry and not a Pinto you hit, bursting into flames like I see on CHiPs reruns late at night - then again Ponch and Jon would swoop to the rescue seconds before the mess exploded into a massive fireball. Maybe, just maybe your truck is possessed and is telling you an important message - carport!
Inject a bit of humor (I hope) be glad it is only sheet metal and not something more important. Feel for you and all of the insurance crap you have coming.
Well, the dead issue was only a loose battery cable. Today went 100% better. Nothing bad happened. Nothing exceptionally good happened either but at least nothing bad happened. Taking the truck in tomorrow and Thursday for estimates. Anyone have any advice regarding insurance? This will be my first claim. I have State Farm and have been with them for about 11 years. Does anyone know if it is an unwritten rule that my rates go up?
Regarding the Camry guy, my boss is acquainted with him and talked to him this afternoon. Since it didn't happen on the street, the police were not involved. So between the two of them, they decided that it would be put on the company insurance and the guy will say one of our flatbeds backed into him. That keeps a claim from going onto my insurance as an accident I caused. This was decided because I actually was at work, heading to a work project. My boss thought it fair that I not be hit with it. I think he felt pitty because he knows how I felt about my garage door incident and the falling door panels.
Like someone said above, it could have been worse. At least all the damage done yesterday was to sheet metal and paint, no humans were hurt. I wonder if it has anything to do with the solar flairs.....
Hang10, I agree with with what Grnacres was getting at. That definately sounds like a F*#& IT leave kinda day. You know you have personal leave, sick leave, and then the aforementioned type. If my morning had started like yours I definately would have just gone back to bed before things could have gotten any worse. Hopefully the next day was better and you don't have too much trouble getting your rig fixed.
I think that I would have rather taken a kick to the Kahoonas. I won't be able to complain about my day for quite some time. Hope things get better, hell they cant' get much worse..
Hang 10 Well it has to get better? If you have had State Farm Ins for over 3 years, one claim will not raise your rates. How ever a second claim in the next 3 years is a 25% surcharge.
What you might check out first is your homeowners policy regarding the damage to the truck caused by the doors - deductible, etc. I'm always reluctant to file on my auto policy for fear of increases when there are so many idiots running around.
Food for thought - the truck crashing into the garage will be listed as an 'at-fault' accident if you file an auto claim, same as if you hit somebody on the street. This is how SF listed my claim when I hit a board in the road and had the damage fixed - my truck hit something and caused the damage. Depending on your state this can cause an immediate policy premium increase or outright cancellation based on your history. In my case, two at fault accidents in 6 months resulted in cancellation after being a SF insured over 18 years with less than 4 claims over that period.
State Farm has also instituted a policy restricting how many homeowners and auto policies an agent can write per month (~10) which results in more cancellations for higher turnover. My brother in law was my agent. SF is trying to force the agents into loans in additon to policies.
My .02 is to check your homeowners first and see if you can get the whole thing covered - wind damage while repairing the door, nothing less, nothing more.
I ditched SF about 5 months ago (2 AUtos, HOs and other insurance policies as well)
I would be careful about a HO claim as well.
More and more carriers are treating HO policies like auto policies...file a claim, rates go up or they drop you. This per my NEW insurance agent (friend and neighbor).
Insurance cos don't make money on HO policies. My SF agent told me they don't even write new HO policies anymore (in my area, at least). SF is trying to get out of the HO business.
SF raised my HO rate 45% in one year (never filed ONE claim on it). I ran as fast as I could.
Saved a BUNCH.
It really sucks that you pay for coverage then have to have second thoughts about ever USING it.
I have been reading all of the problems with SF insurance. Well I hate to be the outsider but I've been with the company since 76 and so far have had to make several claims. Wife and son on all of them except one. My rates havn't gone up or even been questioned on any of them. Maybe I'm just lucky but I'll stick with them until they do somthing like what you are all talking about.
Of course I have so many vehicles, house and other stuff that if I did pull out the stock would probably drop 3 points..
I could talk about GEICO or some of the other companies but guess I'll save that flame out for another time.
