locked up

Ok my 69 f100 ranger 360, C6 locked up while I was doing about 20 mph. I found a 360 rebuilt, performer plus cam, 4 barrel 390 intake, Holley 600cfm double pumper, etc. for $850 plus a 68 and a 69 f100 with more extra parts than I have room for. I removed the engine and installed the rebuilt one. Upon inspection of the flywheel I found that it had ripped the center out of it. I had a new one in the parts I got with the engine. started the new engine after installation. Runs great and sounds real mean. I put it in gear to back it up and found that none of the gears would engage. No noise, all attachments to the tranny are connected, so I am installing one of the other C6's into the truck tonight. The wheels locked up when I thought the engine had ( the old engine seems to turnover fine now when out of the truck) . how bad did I missdiagnose my original problem. What else should I check?

forgot to say that the truck would roll after the original "lockup" but yes I did jump to a conclusion. I'm going to end up with a better truck but ,man, it's a lot of work. While I was under the truck I found some random bolts etc. missing this gave me the chance to replace them. (like 2 missing on the tranny rear crossmember and a few missing on the bellhousing)
