Hey y'all. Looking for some information. Have a death wobble on my 2015 F350. Stock height, no lift. I have replaced every part of the steering including the track bar and joint. I still get a death wobble, but only if I'm doing 60+ MPH and hit a substantial bump. Has definitely gotten better, but not completely fixed. I want to try putting a dual steering damper kit. Wondering what brands you have all used? Thanks in advance
Since the root cause seems to be insufficient caster, why don't you put your money into one of the aftermarket kits that make caster adjustable. Anything less than more caster is just temporarily masking the problem.
How many miles are on the vehicle?? Shocks are only good for 30,000 to 40,000 miles. They do wear out as they are a series of orifices and check valves and after that many miles. Also the shaft seals fail so now you get water and dirt in them.
If it occurs after hitting a bump then look at your shocks. Lot of people fail to realize that when they fail and you hit a bump the wheels will just keeps rebounding as the shock absorber is not working an longer.
i've got a 2015 F-350 Platinum crew cab with 8' bed, never had any death wobble issues (my body mounts are trash and I've got a silicon set from S&B Filters here waiting to go on). Recently I've hit some fairly minor bumps going around slight curves and it was violent to the point I had to slow down, the weird part is it doesn't do any of this at highway speed or over significant bumps on the straights, it's only done it twice in a week and both times it was a a slight curve at 45 miles an hour, and both times it was so violent you would have thought i had been driving it with the death wobble issue unresolved for years. shocks and springs are fairly new, none of the steering components are loose, none of the ball joints are worn or broken, I literally cannot find what could be causing it to happen only at 45mph not below, not above. I can pass over the exact same stretch of road at 40 or 50 MPH and it doesn't do it. I live out in the sticks and get none of that traveling down an aggregate road that's full of sink hole from the last rain. I'm just at a complete loss here on what i need to check beyond everything that is the normal cause. I do need a set of tires soon and I've seen that tires with a soft sidewall from age can cause it from time to time, but my tires aren't that bad, they aren't dry rotting or sagging, just running out of tread. Does anyone know of any other possible causes that aren't listed or well known?
Caster is already adjustable, it just takes replacing a bushing like pictured below.
These bushings go in the knuckle and the ball joint shaft goes through the center hole. The offset adjusts the caster angle by rotating the knuckle relative to the axle housing. They're available everywhere, RockAuto has over 100 different listings for them in various degree increments (see link below), they range from $3 to about $50 in price.
