tailgate assist
There are several kits on the market for the major truck brands
but the Ford selection seems to stop with the F150's
Has anybody found a Ranger specific one, or made the F150 kit work?
If so, which one?

This is not a standard fitting but an after market hydraulic assist.
They make them for 2019 onward Rangers but only for F150 of earlier years.

Your only option is probably trying to find a used Tommy Lift online, I think they were the only ones to made one for the older Rangers but they stopped production many years ago. They used to make 2 models 500lb and 1000lb.

I have ez lift one on my F350, call them, but you will probably have to adapt one from probably an F150 to fit since the ranger tail gate is not that heavy, and thats why there isnt 1, I had to have my bed reworked as I had a tire separation and I forgot to pull the mount, called them and they just sent me one, so they seem to be good folks to work with. Wont hurt to ask.
