To replace or leave alone

I have recently bought 2001 f150 supercrew 4x4 with 5.4 and 144,000 miles. It must have been from the northern climate as there is a lot of rust on frame and lower components. I decided to do some maintenance just to find out the condition of this vehicle. Front brakes replaced with new lines. Checking spark plugs and wondered what the thing hanging on top of firewall just in front of the driver is. It has two hoses that connect to the bottom with 90 degree plastic elbows, one green and one white. Just wondered if the hoses should be replaced. One I removed is quite soft.

That is a EVAP canister purge valve. If it's soft enough to collapse under vacuum it may be wise to change it. If the hose is loose or soft on the fitting, it's possible it will leak in extreme cold.

Okay, thanks for the information. I will look at options for replacement. It is nearly collapsed where it makes the bend near intake connection. Soft like a wet sponge.
