Australian 92 F150 Barn Find Project

Hi Blokes;

My name is Rhys from Australia, and I thought a few of you would be interested in my new Project.

I grew up around F-Trucks as a young bloke, with my Dad having owned 2 x F100s (1978 model and a 1981) and an F150 (1992). So many good memories in the trucks.

I was lucky enough to stumble across this one, which was actually in a shed in the same street my parents live. The minute I saw it, I just had to have it! The truck has been sitting in the same spot since 1994.

Details;-

1992 F150 351W (last of the Australian delivered)
4x4
5 speed manual
10,500 klms (you read that right)
Has been sitting, and has not been started since 1994.
Interior is absolutely mint.
Body is sad, but in good condition. One spot of rust beside the drivers door.

First step is to go over the whole car, and get the thing running. It may need a little work, but it may need a lot (which is my gut feel). But I have the time, so everything is going to get replaced to make the vehicle a reliable daily driver.

Initial list;-
1. Empty one of the fuel tanks (the only one of the two that was ever used)
2. New battery (has no battery in it)
3. New Tyres
4. Replace plugs + leads
5. Replace starter motor
6. Replace Alternator
7. Check/ replace fuel lines + brake lines
8. Check/ replace brake pads + rotors

Secondary list;-
9. Buy a heap of parts from LMC Truck
10. Repair the rust spots on the sills behind the doors
11. Spray on Bed Liner
12. Repaint the entire truck
etc etc.

A few pics for now-

More updates to come this week, as we try to get it started!

Cheers

Does it need a paint job or you just want to change the colour? looks like all it needs is a
wash and a coat of wax! damn mint! never seen the headlights have that trim around them before.
Looks like that land rover is capable? haha sorry im full of comments.

ps what does "bloke" mean? I hear them say it on Top Gear (UK) all the time.

Welcome to FTE!!!!

It looks like a nice find, the body looks to be in great condition in comparison to most of the early '90's truck found in the 'rust belt' section of the US. I'd suggest dropping both tanks just because of the amount of time they have been sitting.

I'm curious, is the steering wheel on the right side or the left side?

If I was to repaint it, it would just be in the factory white. The body is in perfect condition, apart from the rust spots on the rear sill of the cab. The tray (or tub as you call them) has no rust whatsoever. Once I clean it, Ill know exactly what Ive got to work with.

Bloke just means any reference to a mate, or a male person. Im a bloke, and your a bloke. So we are blokes! Simple as that. As an alternative, you could also be "mate", or "cobber" :-)

Cheers

Yeah the only reason I was going to just empty the one tank that has fuel in it, as the other tank has never had any fuel of any kind in it. I just thought that that one should be fine (?).

And yes the steering wheel is on the Right hand side, as per all Aussie delivered vehicles.

Ill get some interior shots up on Monday..

Don't forget while you are working the brake system to completely flush the old fluid out of the lines.
So did you ask the previous owners why it has been sitting for the last 18 years?

Nice find

Matt

Looks to have sealed beams instead of the USA modular plastic headlights. THAT is nice!

Yep will do with the brake lines.

Basically, the guy bought it to commute out to his Farm at Warwick here in QLD. But, both his parents became extremely ill (one had a stroke, the other dementia) so he became the full time care-giver to them. That, and the fact that he has 4 other vehicles meant that the Effie just simply became neglected. And now here it is...

Yeah for some reason the Australian F150s were delivered with these headlights, which has the halogen lamp sort of recessed into the trim (if that makes sense). I think I might update them to the US style of the flush-fitting modular headlight. I think they look just that little bit better..

Thanks, Rhys

I once was given a 199someyearoranother Oldsmobile Delta 88. It had been sitting for over five or six years under a car port, being used as storage, full of clothes and tv's and whatnot. Looked about the same condition as your truck, covered in dirt.

My bud towed it back to my place with his 1999 F-250. The tank read 1/4 full. I put one fresh gallon into the tank and let it sit overnight. To my surprise it started right up and drove like a champ the following day, no charging the batteries, no cleaning the carb, no bleeding the brakes or anything.

Moral of story: You may get lucky, they don't make 'em like they used to.

Nice find and good luck with it!

Dunno mate. Thats Australia for you!

Dont know if you are aware, but 1992 was the last year Ford Australia sold the F150. This particular Truck was literally the last one available new from the dealers here in OZ in 1992. We never got the next generation of F150, and Ford Australia only then started selling the F250 again in 2002 (in limited guise), and ceased importing them in 2006. So we did not, and still do not, have F-Series trucks available from delaers outside of these years. Only via Specialised Importers can you get your hands on a new one, and you pay ridiculous $$ to have one;-
