2012 6.2 P0111

Hey guys,

Just picked up a 2012 f250 4x4 with the 6.2 to replace my dying 5.4 3v. The truck has about 180k miles on it and is bone stock. When I picked it up it ran like a dream no latent codes or anything and pulled my little econobox on a uhaul trailer like a champ. A few days ago it started feeling like it was struggling in some small hills and the fuel economy dropped substantially. I was getting 12-13 out on the highway in the hills of Tennessee and now its all I can do to get 9.5 MPG with a light foot. When I got home I figured I must have sprung a vacuum leak on one of the crappy roads out here. I checked the codes and got a P0111 IAT sensor/ performance problem. I swapped the MAF with a motorcraft ( Im fairly certain the IAT sensor is part of the MAF) and the problem persists. Same code on start up. Anyone else ever have issues like this? Is the IAT actually incorporated into the MAF like I think? If it is, does anyone know what kind of voltages I should be looking for when I probe the harness?

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd update if there is anyone else out there getting a weird P0111. I monitored the intake air temp vs. ambient air temp via torque pro and couldnt find a discrepency that would cause that code. Apparently if those two values are ever greater than 30 degrees F the code is generated. On a wild guess I went to take off and clean the throttle body and noticed the coupling between the airbox and throttle body had a crack in the bottom of it. I got a new one installed. Cleaned the throttle body and did a relearn. Now she runs like a top. Not sure how a vacuum leak turned into a P0111 code with no lean indicators but at least its fixed.

I'm looking at replacing all the spark plugs, and in the process...I'll probably be cleaning the throttle body too.
How does one do a "re-learn"?

Qwazert,

To do a "relearn" you have to leave the negative battery cable disconnected while you work (15-20 minutes at a minimum). Once she's all buttoned up start the truck and let it idle without touching it for about 15 minutes (should be close to operating temperature by then). Thats pretty much it. The relearn process readjusts all your fuel trims and idle and whatnot (also resets the transmissions shift points). Worked wonders on the transmission too. The previous owner must have had a lead foot cause now she shifts like a dream. Also definitely recommend cleaning the TB mine was filthy.
