I had a 171, 174, 401 code reading. I replaced the o2 sensors, and found that the pvc hose had craked. afterwards I erased the codes. the only codes to return were the 171, and 174 codes. any suggestions
I also found an exaust leak, and repaired it. should the codes clear right away or take some driving to reclear
Actually...you should reset the PCM and erase the codes...by removing the neg (-) battery cable and having the headlights in the "ON" position to remove any residual from the system. Do this for 15-30 minutes...and then go do the relearn stage. 10 minutes of highway driving...and 20 minutes of stop and go...or city driving.
For the codes you are receiving...here is a nice troubleshoot guide.
P0171 OBD-II Trouble Code
Technical DescriptionSystem Too Lean (Bank 1)
What does that mean?
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.
Note: This DTC is very similar to P0174, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.
Symptoms
You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration.
Causes
A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
1. The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters (K&N, etc.) can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled
2. There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.
Possible Solutions
Possible solutions include:
1. In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling.
2. Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
3. Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure
any updates? my 01 v6 is throwing the same codes, 171 and 174. want to know if you fixed your truck. thanks.
Did you mean to say v6? if so your in the wrong forum .
but common on ford v6's is the intake manifold o-rings causing these codes.
lean bank 1,lean bank2.

I have heard of many V6 Super Dutys in this forum, Rich. We've helped numerous members solve that problem. You have too, but I guess your old brain has deleted them.
