Need to reduce my hitch from 2.5 to 2in on my 2020 SD. Most adapters I find have reviews about them being too loose. Anyone have any recommendations on reducers?
I quit screwing around with reducers and just bought a 2.5 inch ball mount with multiple drop points. It wasn't the cheap way but I went with Shocker. Easy to adjust up & down, easy to switch *****. Smoother ride for hauling a 7x18 enclosed with 4 motorcycles, tools, luggage, etc. on my annual 1400 mile one way vacation trip.
I just researched this and it seems everyone's favorite on the different forums is the Curt reducer with the little "ears" to act as a depth stop. Most said they liked it much better than Ford's OEM reducer. Ordered on from Amazon, less than $30.
And +1 on the rattle reducer plate posted above, those are gold.
If your reducer wobbles then its easy. expose metal on 2 points on either side, one to the rear one tot he front, do same on top. Place a tack from a welder on each exposed metal point. Using a file tune your welds to just fit and slide in and out with ease. Paint, problem solved...
What others have said. Buy the factory Ford one. It fits the best by a mile. I have one and keep it for towing random things. Anything I tow regularly gets a 2.5" hitch.
Whatever the adapter, if you still have more movement than you'd like, you might cut some shims out of scrap aluminum like I had laying around, lube a bit and tap the assembly into the receiver. Works great. Would have ordered the Ford unit but I needed a solution NOW and the Curt unit was in stock locally.
