OBD I Codes

1990 E150 Codes are 98 & 63. I know the 98 is a hard fault and 63 will probably fix it so, Has anyone changed the TPS on their 5.8L? I know I can't get to it from the front, but do I have to remove the throttle body to get to it? Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before going after this sensor.

Thanks.

Thanks Conanski, I figured it might have to. I'll order a new gasket today.

Mike1, noticed in another thread you mentioned that the TPS should read 1-5 volts. I looked up the part number for your tps and mine and believe they are the same. If so, then our TPS is non adjustable. Ours is the level D/RD TPS If you do a search on level D/RD tps you can find out more info.
Conanski is good with the sensors too so if I am wrong, maybe he will correct me! It is my understanding that the with the non adjustable TPS, the PCM takes care of things is the reference voltages is a little off, to a point. i have read that the voltage can be .9 to 1.1 at idle and 4.5 to 5 at WOT

Yes it's the non-adjustable, so basically what you see is what you get, as far as a fixed unit, but even the non-adjustable can be dremeled out slightly, as long as you stay on the same curvature with the holes in the sensor. You don't need much, but making the TPS adjustable can gain as much as 1v in either direction, which could make the difference in running at top performance or having that slight hesitation that you just can't put you finger on after a full tune up...LOL. These older cars are starting to come back to me in my brain pan, I been driving newer ones so long, I haven't had to really mess with anything in years. I still need to order the books for my van, right now I'm working off of my old 1986 - 1996 F series and Bronco Haynes manual...Not the greatest but there is some good info in it.
