Power Steering Pump

I'm replacing the power steering pump on my 76 F100 and looking for advice for a new pump. I'm not interested in a rebuilt pump or replacing seals in mine. This pump is the pencil neck style mounted to an FE engine. Any thoughts or input will be appreciated.

Now is the time to research doing a Saginaw "canned ham" power steering pump swap.

This will give you an idea about the Saginaw pump. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...51m-400-a.html

Bleed p/s the FORD way and it works every time!!!
1- Hook everything up
2- Fill with fluid
3- Jack up front of truck off of ground (Both front wheels)
4- Disconnect or Disable coil (So Truck CANNOT start)
5- Turn Steering wheel lock to lock about 5 to 10 times
6- Top off Fluid
7- Repeat Step 5 (Lock to Lock)
8- Repeat Step 6 (top off fluid)
9- Crank engine over (Ignition Disabled) and turn steering lock to lock 5 to 10 times
10- Repeat Step 6 (top off fluid)
11- Repeat Step 9 (crank/turn)
12- Repeat Step 6 (top off fluid)
13- Enable Ignition
14- Start Truck and turn Lock to Lock 5-10 times
15- Turn off Truck
16- Repeat Step 6 (top off fluid)
17- Repeat Step 14 (start, turn L to L)
18- Repeat Step 15 (turn off truck)
19- Repeat Step 6 (top off fluid)
20- Let Truck Down off of jacks or jack stands
21- Repeat Step 14 (start truck L to L)
22- Steering should work just fine, have all the air bled out and have a quiet pump to boot!!!

I haven't really thought about trying to modify to a different style pump. For right now I'm leaning towards just a new pump like I already have just to get this truck back on the road. I'll definitely keep the modification in mind and may actually do that later.

unless you can find an NOS one like I was lucky enough to find I think rebuilts are about the best you can do. I've had decent luck with them, and they usually have a lifetime warranty so all you're out is your time if they puke.

Well new doesn't exist unless you fund NOS. If yours doesn't make noise then a seal kit is all it needs.

I second the Saginaw motion. After I converted, I immediately wished I had done it the day I got the truck.

I had found this all new pump and thought maybe someone has used one like it before. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...ford/year/1976
Cardone states that it's all new and not a rebuilt pump.

I've never seen one of those before, but if I needed a pump I'd try one. sure they're imported but what isn't.

If you care about originality they were painted a metallic blue. Mustang restoration vendors sell spray cans of it.

I can already steer with one fingertip at a standstill with my original pump setup. It's a bit noisy and dumping fluid so it's time to replace. I'm not sure that the extra cost for a Saginaw conversion is gaining me anything and still be a rebuilt pump.

I bought a new pump for $105.00
Might of been from ebay.
Brand was New Advantage.
Part number N713-2108
Call 1 844-248-3220 for assistance was on a tag attached to the filler neck.
So far the pump is much quiter than the old one and steering works well with the power assist ram unit and hydroboost unit.
BBBNEWADVANTAGE.COM
1976 F250 4X4 with hydroboost brake system, 4 wheel disc brakes.
429 with Holley fuel injection and oxygen sensor.

I'm doing the Saginaw conversion from WildHorses4x4.com since my stock pump is dying. I'm going for the upgrade because I'm also going to be doing hydroboost brakes on my truck so I figure might as well put the best power steering pump I can get on there to help.

Yes they have a new Cardone pump like Summit has. I was hoping someone had been using one like it.

Hard to find anything made new or rebuilt in the USA. Color isn't too important. I typically just repaint semi gloss black.
