Having a leak on my third brake light ( like others) and will be fixing with a more permanent solution of butyl tape (2) thicknesses
making the assembly really hard to take off.
While I was doing this and it is a 2013, I thought I should get new halogen (original) bulbs and replace them before assembling it.
But it seems like an LED replacement bulb would be best with a much longer life.
My 95 E150 lamp was replaced twice, finally, my son who does auto glass gave me a tube of his butyl sealant (like caulk), not leaked since. Just got a 14 E250, bought a replacement lamp assy and fixed it right away.
I would just go stock..and use 100% Silicone ...Bytle is too hard core...I would retain the stock gaskets and just add a small bead of Silicone on the outside edge ..apply Di- electric grease on the connectors ...maybe change ( Heat shrink and solder ) them and you should be OK....I have done it several times...My Van is a Roofing Truck and **** gets smashed all the time...JMHO.... I also went to junkyards ALOT and pulled out several Intact units..just for parts....I still have 3 or 4 complete assemblies ...If you need one let me know I have at least 3 maybe 4 ....But you can Pull one yourself no problem you need a #2 Philips and a 10 MM IIRC ..... regardless Good Luck
