Axle codes?

Hi i was wondering where can I find the axle codes for my truck. I have the vin#, but the only other number i can see on the sticker are F1032, and directly below that is T0679. Where else can I find these codes?

there is a tag in the engine compartment, attached to the firewall, on a stamped piece of metal.

There is also a VIN code stamped into the frame rail on the passenger side inside at or near a cab mount.

the best ID is the buck tag on a Ford 9" or the casting code on a dana axle.

you have a 9" rear for sure, its an F100.

I have a 9" rear? I have an F-250. I know I have a Dana 60 rear, but on the front axle it is hard to make out, plus I would like to know the ratio. thanks for the info though.

Look at the axle code on the sticker in the door jam. Post what you have and we will decipher it.

i dont think there is an axle code on the door jam sticker. there is the vin number, the gvwr for each axle, the tire sizes, and then those other two number that i gave previously.

The front is a Dana 44 HD, dana 60 housing and axles with a dana 44 ring and pinion gear.

hey mattsbox? how do you know that it is a dana 44 with a 60 housing etc? Also where in the engine compartment is this tag located? Lastly, I don't know whether this is going to help or not, but my cousin has a 1977.5 F-250, and his front shocks have a mount at the bottom that a bolt goes through, and a mount at the top that has a bolt that you just thread a nut on. My truck has a "bolt" on both ends that you have to just thread a nut (plus bushing etc) on. Thanks

He said sticker but may have meant the METAL door plate called the rating plate,
This plate only tells the story of how it left the factory.

30 years later things might have changed.

To know for sure, you need to count the ring gear & pinion gear, then do the math.

ie: 33 tooth ring gear
11 Tooth Pinion gear

33 divided by 11 = 3.00 : 1 ratio

There is also a metal tag in the engine compartment, with the hood open, look straight back to the top of the firewall, there should be a complete VIN rating plate right there. Its held in place by a rivet. It should be there.

It came with a sticker in the door jam, not on the door. This had paint, axle, interior, etc codes on it. It is usually just below the striker bolt.

Haha I can see I have quite a dilema on my hands now. Ok, I looked on the sticker on te door jam and it had my vin, those two other numbers, and the total gvwr as 7400LB, the front is 4500LB, and the back is 4610LB. The actually on the door plate is of no use since it is not an original door. the engine compartment tag is no where to be found. Another bit of info is that I cant tell what axle it is just by looking at the number on the lower right of the axle because this is covered by the u-bolt mounts for the front leaf springs. this along with the weird shocks i stated previously. At this point i just want to know what axle i have forget about the ratio! If you need more info just by looking at it i can help you experts out. Thanks again i hope to get this figured out soon.

not that I'm doubting you matt but a 4500# dana 44? Also does the 44HD have the same pumpkin as a 60? Lastly if I were to buy new locking hubs for this axle would I buy 44's or 60's? thanks

It technically is a Dana 60, it has a dana 44 ring and pinion, for more gear ratios. The hubs should be all dana 60, but check to make sure.

I have a 75 F250 w 44 up front and 60 in the rear. If you look at the front of the pumpkin, the lower webbing on the pass side you should see the number for the axle. Mine says 44 6EF (no clue what the other code is). I also just converted mine from full time to part time, I used warn premium hubs. I'm curious to what was said about the axle being a 60 with 44 ring and pinion. If you get more info please let me know.

Matt
