Hi Guys
So my new F250 2020 7.3 liter had my camper plugged in to my truck and wasn't charging my battery couldn't find power in my plug at all. Looked in fuse box both 30 amp fuse were present. Once I hitched up it seemed to be taking a charge is that correct? Camper is a 2019 cougar 315RLS
I pretty sure, you have to have the truck running and mash the brake to activate the circuit. Some say the door has to be shut also, during the activation. My old '01 did just fine with a "hot" hot wire, don't know why we have to have this foolishness.
Probably meant to keep from draining the truck battery when parked.
I'm sure it is, but seems a lot more user friendly to have the system cut it off when it reached 12.1 volts or the like, instead of the chicken thing to activate.
Owners have complained that attaching the trailer umbilical while the truck is running will blow the 2 fuses that control the charging circuit.
If the chicken detector is cold you may have to smack the center stack with the chicken to activate it. And the chicken must be held by the feet. Holding by the head will cross-polarize the charge circuit. Now you know why the center console storage is big enough to accommodate a couple of chickens.

I've connected/disconnected the cable with the truck running. No problems. If the 12v charge circuit isn't activated until the brake pedal is pressed, there can't be much risk in attaching the cable with the engine running. However, Ford could screw this up too.
