Computer self adjust?

It seems that I drive my '95 F150 300 I6 empty to work for several months racking up several thousand miles and then when I hitch up the trailer, it seems to lack power on the freeway until after about 100 miles or so and then it runs a lot better. I wonder if the computer needs time to adjust between these two extremely different conditions or am I just imagining all this?

the computer does not need to be adjusted you can reset it by disconnecting the battery post, this will reset any trouble codes, your problem has to be something else if it is lacking power and eventually clears up, maybe the computer is faulty.

Computer self adjust?

I cant recall exactly when it was first introduced , but most of todays vehicles computers all have some form of adaptive memory . It basically expects you to drive like you drive . Its usually the owners that notice the difference in drivability & it is subtle . Its more complicated than the few lines Ive written , but Id say if all else is fine with your truck then thats whats going on .

Computer self adjust?

Seems to be the case as I recently had tune up and throttle body cleaned etc. and the engine runs great! Last April the same thing happened. It towed horribly first 70 or 80 miles. I had it floored and only went barely 65 mph. Then it ran fine after that and I remember going 70 with no problem. All this on very flat land. Back then I thought it was the head wind but head winds actually don't seem like that big a deal, though may have contributed to the poor run. Wonder if there is a computer attachment with a switch you cold flip for towing vs empty. Now that would be pretty useful. (I just saw where you can do a shift kit on an electronic auto tranny to freely switch from normal to two stiffer shift patterns.)

If you disconnect the battery, and turn the headlamps ON for about 5 minutes to drain the power supply in the PCM then reconnect the battery, your truck will "unlearn" your habits and reset to the factory defaults. It will then "learn" to tow in about 15-20 minutes. It's really not quite as weird as it sounds.

I read where it takes a couple hundred miles to re-learn habit's of driving, or is this just new engines? 4.6L/5.4??
