Hello, I have a 1997 F-150 4X4 with the 4.6 l V-8 and the 4R70W trans. 125 K miles. The issue I am having is the trans. shifting through the gears very quickly. By the time the truck gets to 35 MPH it's in OD. Also, if I come to a quick stop the trans seems to still be in a higher gear. Sometimes the truck will almost stall. I have a P0503 VSS Circuit Fault code and a P0600 Serial Communication Link Fault code. I have access to a higher end Autel scanner. When I monitor the vehicle speed on the scanner the speed readout sometimes spikes when coming to a stop. It shows a maximum speed of 631 MPH. (Not bad for an F-150). Also if I accelerate hard from a stop the readout speed will immediately spike to 30 - 35 MPH. The speedometer on the dash seems to read correctly. .. From all I have read, I thought the VSS that was defective was the one on the side of the transmission. I replaced it and it made no difference. Have I replaced the wrong sensor? Is the one on the tail shaft of the transfer case the one I should have replaced? Thank you, George
The PCM, ABS, and speed control modules uses the rear ABS sensor on the top of the differential for speed indication. The cluster uses the one on the transmission.
