Wrong Rig

A long time back, a local auto dealer converted an Army Jeep to a wrecker by adding a short boom and hook at the rear. A friend who worked there asked me if I would like to go with him to repro a car and of course I said yes. We went into the mountains (Arkansas) about an hour and located the big Chrysler at a general store, and the locals (right out of DELIVERENCE) didn't give us a problem as we hooked up. At the first uphill grade we hit the front end lifted on the Jeep and it could not be steered. For the rest of the trip I had to set on the hood to make the wheels touch and I nearly froze to death. Next time I was at the dealership they had moved the boom and hook to a Dodge Power Wagon. I decided that one repro trip was enough.

Wrong Rig

I used to have a repo service and yes, I've been to the Arkansas hills on business, too. Strange place. I had trouble wearing out the top rubber bushings on the front shocks on my 73 F-250 4x4. I drove many a mile with my front wheels doing the tippy-toe dance. It's and interesting business and one in which you can make good money, if you live. I got out after one too many of those 'interesting' jobs. I still carry a pistol, though, and have a permit to do so.
