As many have asked, and many of you probably wonder and are afraid to ask waht Gig'em means. Gig'em is an Aggie thing. Students/fans say "gig'em" and give the thumbs up. It originated when A&M played TCU (the horned frogs) a long time ago. One of the yell leaders made signs to "gig the horned frogs". Ever since then it stuck to say "Gig'em"!

Now yall can stop wonderin!

Jen, thanks for the history.

I never gave it a thought cause in my younger days I used to go airboating, hunting (deer, hog, gator-whatever we came across)frog gigging, camping and all that fun swamp stuff. I always thought the gigging was the worst cause I don't care for frog legs and it was discusting to go out at night with a light and a spear stabbing those poor little creatures. Luckily I only had to drive the airboat otherwise there would be no legs.

Just thought that maybe I wasn't the only female into those outdoorsie things.

Here on the coast of NC we flounder gig. Loads of fun.......
Walking through the bay.......pitch dark.....towing an inner tube with a battery to power your light. And a stringer of BLOODY fish tied to your waist......

Let something brush up against your leg and I guarantee you'll need fresh drawers. LOL

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Aug-02 AT 10:29 PM (EST)]Ron - at least I was in a boat. I can't even stand going in the ocean and having anything brush up against me. No way I could flounder gig!!!!! If I can't get if from a pole while I'm in a boat or on the shore, I'll buy it in the store.

Dennis - I haven't heard on snipe hunting since I was a kid. OH the memories that brings back.

I don't know how many friends of mine who went frog giging in Arkansas who had the story of one guy in the front of the boat and one guy in the back of the boat and then in the dark there is this 'flumph' sound in the middle of the boat. 'Jim bob was that you?' 'No Earl, I thought it was you.' Shine a flashlight in the middle of the boat and there's a big ole water moccasin there!!! Yikes.

Dead on the money Chuck...lol.

We did get wise though and upgraded to a boat. You can cover lots more water that way in a night and don't get nearly so tired. It had nothing to do with us bein skeered of course....(Jaws music playing faintly in background). LOL

The boat is too cool. It's a flat bottom jon boat with twin lights on the front that can be lowered into the water. Two seats up front. Small generator near the back to power the lights. Room for a cooler full of refreshment. Only thing is with all the wiring you have to watch where you step. We never carried a flashlight till one night after my buddy tripped, sat down on the generator (anybody know why they'd put the muffler in such an exposed place?), then jumped overboard to cool his roasting hiney.....pulling the wires loose from the generator. Did I mention gigging is best done in the pitch dark? Took me a while for my eyes to adjust and get the wires plugged back in. One a good note though, my buddy said he must have cauterized his hemmorhoids......he hasn't had any trouble with em since. *grin*
