I just traded my 2011 Escape. It had a rear differential leak at both halfshafts. It looked like quite a job to which is part of the reason for trading. So now after the fact, I'm wondering what the repair cost would have been. It looks like the entire rear suspension would have to be dropped, At past my 80th birthday I can find other mischief to get into! All comments welcome.
Not even a guess? I will say that I believe the entire rear end assy would have to be dropped and the differential disassembled. Looks like a lot of work to me.
I'd say between $400-$1200, most which would be labor.
They should be able to pull the axles without having to actually remove the assembly which would save a lot of time.
I was talking dealership, as my thought was it was going to cost me that much ($1000) in reduced trade in value. It had only 72,000 on it, very clean but with rust around rear wheelwells, starting to look rough underneath and most of exhaust needed replacing. Wheels were also looking bad due to time spent in the north. Don't see that where we live now in Tennessee. Anyway, they offered me 5K if I gave it to them immediately, or 4K when the new vehicle (Ranger) would come in 8 to 16 weeks from now. The dealer put it on their lot at is for $9995. I do not see them getting anywhere near that.
