Recently installed an aftermarket TBC that fits in the dash where the OEM controller would go.
I used forscan and enabled the Controller module and gain setting.
I checked under the truck and the orange wire and blue wire coming from the 7-way were not connected to anything. I dropped the tire to get access to the harness and just hard wired blue from the 7-way to blue wire behind the plug and did the same with the orange wire.
If I manually press the level on the TBC it will engage the brakes, but just pressing the brakes the trailer brakes do not engage.
I also do not think it’s charging the battery on the trailer either.
So I know I’m able to manually use the controller and it works, it just doesn’t seem to get a signal when I press the brakes.
So my questions are:
1) do you think it’s something with a relay or fuse. I have check under the hood and under the dash and it appears everything is installed as should be
Or
2) do you think it’s an issue with the aftermarket TBC
FWIW, I had the same issue. Turns out a couple the scotch-lock wire connections on the trailer brake wire connections were loose and/or disconnected entirely. So while my manually applied brakes worked, it took me a couple pulls to realize only 2 of the wheels were actually braking. The other two did nothing. I remedied the situation by soldering all the connections. Never a problem since...

Why did you have to do this? An aftermarket controller does not interface with the gauge cluster and the ABS in the truck. No need to flash for anything but a Ford ITBC.

I wonder if that idea has the computer confused.
I'm also confused by this. If you are going to put one in the location of the integrated controller, just buy and install the integrated controller, especially if you have ForScan to change settings on your own. Quite honestly the integrated controller is great, to the point where I wouldn't even bother with an aftermarket controller.
What compelling thing about the aftermarket controller would make you go down this path? Is it $20 cheaper? $30? The OEM one works really well, and is not that expensive to begin with.
