I just got this https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Adapt...s%2C225&sr=8-6 today to see what it is charging at. might have to take it for a drive.
mine did too. I have swapped mine out for sealed AGM's.
Mine leaked from day one on my 2016. I cleaned up the mess and added water for a couple years. I gave up and replaced the corroded hold down straps and replaced them with AGM's.
After realizing what the cost to replace a corroded battery harness was it was not worth the trouble to keep those leakers any longer.
the caps are intended to collect gas and thru condensation, drip the acid back into the cells
if the batteries are hot, no condensation can take place...gas pressure builds up and the gas escapes the caps and results in acid accumulation around the caps.
if your batteries run hot....best to get agm...agm has a pressure valve to help keep the gas in the battery
in my situation, on both my 2011`, and 2016, its always been the drivers side battery that has all the leaking problems. Anyway, last two trucks, ive run the stock motorcraft for about 3 years, when they are starting to leak, and then get rid of them in favor of the AGM's. My personal favorites are the Autozone platinum AGM's/ they are about $200 each, sometimes can find them on sale.
The Motorcraft's leaked on mine. My second set were expensive AGMs but didn't last any longer than flooded. The Interstate's I have now have been fine for three years.
There has been a lot of speculation on why the batteries are producing so much acid on top. Hold down too tight, overcharging, too much heat, crappy batteries and electrolyte too full. I'm sure I missed a couple. If it's any of the first three, any battery is going to have a problem.
My driver side was replaced under warranty. I had to repair the hold down myself. So far, I'm not seeing leakage with the current batteries like I did with the original driver side battery.
4 hours of run time today stayed at 14.6 to 14.7 volts, haven't looked at them to see if they are leaking yet but they have less than 200 miles on them. my plan for now is to make ford warranty them every time they leak. maybe they will up the quality if enough people do that, probably not but maybe.
That's good stuff! You are the first person I have heard on the web that uses whip.
Don't get it on your skin or clothes is like tar to remove.
only problem now is finding some, no one around here sells it. what I had I bought at NAPA in Abilene Kansas. they used to sell it on ebay but not anymore.
