V8 Engine Swap
First of all I have a 1998 F150 4.2 V6 with a 5speed and i was wondering about a swap with a 4.6L v8. i was lookin at the specs and it looks like the transmissions are the same, (R2) the spec sheet shows the same name and gear ratios so i assume that the motors will inter change without changing transmissions, also i looked at the 4.6 and the 5.4 and they have the same bore but not the same stroke so essentially i could switch the crankshaft out of the 5.4 and put it in the 4.6 right? so i could actually have a 5.4 with a 5 speed in my f150 just wondering cuz a v6 just dont cut it.

A 4.6L is a waste of time in my opinion. It only has like 25 more horses. That's not too much when your talking trucks. I'm no rocket scientist, but I think the engine swap would be a bit more difficult than that. While I've never drivin' the 4.6 myself, I've heard the 4.2 in a regular cab with the 5 speed is just as fast all the way around and faster.

Engine swap....change engine to 5.4L $2500.00, change wiring harness $1000.00, change tranny $1000.00,(prices estimated based on personal attempt to do this) its not a cheap operation man and for the stress you are gonna go through jus give the lil guy a chance that lil 4.2 will surprise you if you spend a lil time and money souping it up
