Dual Battery Conversion
I have a 2004 F250 with the V10 Gas engine and I am looking to add a 2nd battery to the truck. A friend that I hunt with has a 2003 F250 with the Diesel engine (truck body style is nearly the same) and he has dual batteries in his factory setup. He has a battery on both sides of the engine well, while mine is just on the passenger side. Given this fact, I thought there might be a conversion kit or some kind of simple steps to add a 2nd battery to my '04 F250.
Any help is appreciated, thanks much!
Mounting on the frame rail is an interesting idea. I do want to run it on an isolator and use it for some Radios and Overlanding gear. It might actually be easier to power those things if the battery is closer to the bed. I will have to look at that.
I can't find the thread though.
But he moved the canister down some and installed a factory battery tray and used the factory wiring harness. Looked like a clean set up.
Here you go, I found the thread. This should help you out.

I did a similar setup in my K5 Blazer for off roading. Secondary battery was used to run the stereo, VHF race radio and off road lights. That way I could run it all without running the engine or killing the battery. Easiest setup I found and used was a blueseas relay. But you have to use the correct one.
I got one that no matter the condition of the secondary battery, once the motor was running, it would energize the charge relay and charge the secondary battery. Some of the ones they have, the secondary battery cant be lower than a certain voltage level or it will not energize to charge. I think it was like 11 volts or somewhere around there. That didn't work for my application as a few times, the secondary battery was below that threshold.
