Rough Idle with no codes...FIXED!

Just thought I would share my fix.

I have been searching after a rough idle for months on my truck. Replaced the EGR/EVP...which did help a little, but it certainly wasn't it.

It turned out to be the Air Charge Temp Sensor (ACTS), which didn't throw a code, but I figured it was either that or the coolant temp sensor since I only got the rough idle when it is warm.

Don't know why it didn't throw a code, but it was the problem and now it is fixed for $20 and lots of headaches gettin there.

Thanks for all the help I got, it was good suggestions.

Where is this sensor? I have had a similar problem and would love to try this out. I have a 302 in a 1993 F150 4x4. What exactly were your symptoms?

symptoms were a stumbling idle when hot. I think this leads many to believe it is the EGR. The sensor is located on the lower intake manifold, just under the fuel rail by the schrader valve used for testing fuel pressure. There is a 2 pin plug on it. I'm surprised we don't hear more about this sensor since it is a plug with a little wire hanging on the inside of it...must go often and fairly quick compared to other sensors. Don't forget to pull the battery cable to clear the computer memory when you do it.

Was the $20 cost from Ford or from the corner auto parts store? I have the same problem with my '92 F150 and I'm going to start with your fix.

'92 Ranger 4WD
'94 Explorer 4WD
