Selector Switch

I am in the process of connecting a Z flash strobe module. They have come along to the point where you can wire them to an up fitter switch to activate. You can program 3 modes from the hardwire switch. Each is an individual wire. Depending on which one of 3 wires you connect to (+) determines the mode activated. Rather than use 3 up fitter switches, I would rather use the upfitter to turn them on/off, and some sort of selector switch that allows me to connect the (+) from the upfitter passthrough wire, and the 3 modes from the unit so I can select between modes 1,2,3. Anyone have any recommends for this type of switch or whether it exists?

What year is your truck? Last time I Iooked a couple of weeks ago they had nothing for 2020 and up. Neither did Speed Turtle. I had a Z Flash module that I used on my 2017 and 2019 but they were strictly OBD plug and any configuration had to be via plugging it into a computer. Operation was OBD plug only, with activation via holding the high beam stalk for a period of seconds.

I think you will need either a 3 or 4 position rotary switch. Connect the 12+ from the upfitter switch to "in" or common position terminal on the rotary switch. Then connect each mode lead to the remaining terminals. Some switches count the "in" terminal as a position which they will call a 4 position switch. Others only count the selected positions calling it a 3 position switch. Keep in mind that if your going to be switching high current draw loads, you will either need to use a heavy duty 12vdc relay or find a switch for high current. Do a Google Search for a switch.

2018. They have a new unit that plugs into the OBD, but you can wire a switch to it to avoid the whole high beam stick. That is the reason I never bought a few years ago. You are right though, I don't believe they work for a 2020 yet. https://www.thezflash.com/ford.html

No relay required, this is only to tell the module which pattern to use. The Z-Flash just needs to see the 12V, basically the activation side of a relay. The harness wires are thinner than telephone wire.

You only need two switches - the third pattern is 12V to BOTH wires, or at least that is how MY harness is. You might want to look at the Z-Flash switch as an add-on - you can cycle through all the patterns including the stupid "drive" pattern, not just the first 3.

Nice catch -- you are right. Mine is the same. Did you link yours to the upfitters? Any way to use the other patterns in drive other than the "stupid drive" pattern?

I got y SD used, the original didn't get upfitters , so I will be using the switch that came with it. Just need to figure where I want to put it, as the LEDs are on the brighter side. Somewhere out of my line of sight, yet accessible.

As for the drive pattern, no one has figured how to change it (yet). Something about being limited by Ford.
