1980 Bronco VIN

1980 Bronco VIN

Could someone lend a hand on figuring out the VIN from this door tag. It's an '80 bronco my youngest and I have found down on it's luck. I've seen a few "don't bother with an '80 bronco" threads but we are committed and the price is right. What I see as the VIN is 14 characters. I think it's supposed to be 17, was 11 at some point back in time.

Vins were required to be 17 characters in a standardized format starting with the 1981 model year..

It's a 1980 Bronco, it came with the 351W and it was built in Michigan... Now the H2 axle means 3.50 gear with limited slip

Thank you sir. A problem I'm running into is I am most likely going to need to do a bonded title and was doing a VIN search just to see if the seller is actually telling me the truth.

So I read the VIN as MPVU15GLGG5738. Am I reading that correctly?

The VIN search services on line say I have an incomplete number.

Many of the sites you find online are lazily made and won't search shorter than 17 character VINs.

I read that tag as your VIN being "U15GLGG5738"

This site seemed to work with my VIN and seemed to work with yours also.

I'd think you just need to find a VIN search utility that accepts older VINs for searching ownership etc. You may need to check with your local title agency or law enforcement and have them look it up.
