Been going through a lot of washer fluid this winter, then I noticed a big blue spot in the snow under the reservoir one morning after filling it up the night before. Dealer then changed the reservoir which apparently contains the pump. Told me it was a bad seal from the pump to the reservoir.
Checked it next day, and another puddle; it lost about 3/4 from a full tank.
So what have we got here, a bad batch of reservoirs & pumps? Any guesses before it goes back in next week?
maybe the tank and gasket are old stock from a previous model year and the barbed fitting on the pump isn't sealing on a "drying out" hardened over time rubber gasket on the tank?
Finally found the ba$tard after 3 trips to the dealer. They told me a rubber hose that passes though the fender on the way to a camera was defective. Replaced it and no leakage since. Free oil change and interior/exterior detailing as compensation for the bs.
Ours has been leaking and, after considerable searching on-line, I've determined that most leakage is caused by a siphon effect, since the camera is lower than the reservoir. If you keep your reservoir half-full, it won't leak. I chose to use some long needle-nosed pliers, reached in the grille and disconnected the hose just above the check valve, then plugged the hose with a suitable diameter pin.
I know this is a relatively minor problem compared to some who’ve had to replace engines and transmissions. Just curious if anyone else with a similar setup experienced this. My truck has dual batteries and dual alternators. The windshield washer fluid reservoir sits under the battery on the driver’s side. Before the bumper to bumper warranty expired, the reservoir began leaking after filling it to about 1/3. The local dealer refused to replace it under warranty, claiming “critters chewed through the plastic, not covered under warranty”. They wanted a ridiculous price to replace it, $688. I ordered one from the OEM manufacturer for < $69, while continuing to fill it to just below the leak. Yesterday, finally had it replaced. Does this look like a rodent, squirrel or other “critter” with an alcohol addiction chewed through the hard plastic? Maybe a critter with a file. Looks more like an engineering fitment issue, or the tight placement under then battery tray caused friction between the metal surface and plastic edge of the reservoir to rub completely through. I’m guessing the service department at the dealership never even looked at it, unless they used a remote camera, because there was no evidence the optional inner fender liners bolts and clips had ever been removed before.

You will probably get a better response in the 2017+ Super Duty forum.
