engine identification issues
Second question-Since I couldn't find the body info I tried to use a couple of parts catalogs to match carb, fuel pump, or anything else i could find to any V-8. Nothing matched. I later found out that the original engine died and was replaced in '75. My grandfather and his brother did the rebuild on what they were told was a V-8 out of a '56 F100, but I still can't match any parts. I thought the engine had a 1 bbl. carb, but this can't be right can it? Did Ford ever make a V-8 with a 1bbl.? And, if not, are there any numbers on the enigne that will tell me what size it is and what year it is?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
As for the engine, looking from the front , does it appear to have a pronounced Y shape? If so , you will find a number for the block on the drivers side, just above the oil filter toward the firewall side of the engine. Then go to the Y-block page and reference the block. If it came out of a 56 it could be a 239 or a 292.
Good luck. Others far more learned than I may be able to offer other information on how to ID your engine
