On a 1953 F3 if you put on a 5 - 5.5 psi electric fuel pump, can you plug the original fuel pump or would that cause a problem with it being moved by the cam. My thought is to just leave them open and let them vent. Is there a block off plate available? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks!
You can block off the Fuel pump without any problems. Many folks have done it here. Do NOT leave it open. Not only will you have an oily mess on your hands but contaminants will get in and ruin your engine.
Leave it as it was . My F8 pump went south electric 6vt napa pump. and never looked back just leave it .there who cares .....
Thank for the reply! I was wanting to leave it on the engine. Can I plug both ports on the fuel pump or just leave them open to vent. I did not want to cause any problem if the old fuel pump ports are sealed and the fuel pump is working against the cam.
Phil, wondering if you found the solution to your pump? I have two 239 EBU (early 54 engine from Dearborn Foundry) fuel pumps with the long straight arm, and would be willing to sell one to you.
My 54 has the early EBU 239, but it appears to have a cracked block. I now have a 239 EBV (late 54 and 55 from Cleveland Foundry) and need a fuel pump for it. I too would like to use an OE type with the top mounted gas bulb but cannot find one. When I do a search for a 1955 239 fuel pump I see some with a short curved arm and some with a long curved arm - what is the difference? Which arm length do I need for my 1955 EBV 239?
