Very nice! I love the large cable upgrade. I have done some half step upgrades to my cables but am keeping an eye on a complete overhaul. Is that a 6.0 alternator?
I have had issues with the cables loosening regularly on the military terminals when the cable ends are tightened directly to the terminal. I resolved this by using longer 9/16" bolts and installing a nut/lock wash against the terminal and then the cable ends and finally another nut/washer. To clarify: Terminal face>Lock Washer/Nut>Cable ends>Lockwasher/nut.
Well done sir! I accomplished similar upgrades 3 years ago this past October and you are right, "strongest and fastest crank ever" sums it up nicely.
I installed NorthStar AGM batteries, Denso starter, 160A alternator, positive and negative cable upgrades. I will do the battery terminals following your guidance once of these days.
Thanks for sharing pictures with us, we like pictures. Here is how my engine bay turned out with the electrical upgrades.
I like the 240amp Mechman a lot, very well made and finished. Hasn't blown the fuse, but I haven't loaded it up at all. Factory testing was well documented. Pully is .400" diameter smaller than what was on there, no idea if that was stock OEM or not but the OEM belt fits fine. Coincidentally, I had to change out the belt tensioner. It had apparently been arc welded at the 1/2" drive hole and rendered useless. Must have been exciting for someone. I feel like I need to point out that I've only had this rig for a couple years...
I sure like the idea of the extra output! I have a 1500/3000 inverter I use off of the truck sometimes, but would like to go with a larger one permanently mounted...and yes, I want to be able to carry my 110 wire welder with me and use it off of the truck for small repair work and such when electricity is not available.
I can get onboard with charging a battery bank in the trailer! I had been mulling that over in my head also...if I had enough alternator that the truck did not have to sit and idle for a long time to charge a battery bank in the trailer, that would be awesome! Are you going to run a dedicated line to the back of the truck to charge on road, or just go jumper cable method?
