Hello guys, new here to the website. I recently got into an accident where my truck got totaled. I had just gotten it restored, the truck means a lot to me and so I want to fix it back up again. It needs a new cab, truck was flipped. It’s a 1993 F-150 Extended Cab Short Box. 302 Automatic, 4x4 Touch-Drive. Does the cab I get need to be the exact year and specs as my 93’? I know in 94’ Ford added some more stuff to the trucks such as airbags, the extra brake light on the back of the cab and went to MAF instead of the MAP like my 93’ has. If I get a cab that is not a 92-93 with a 302 what would have to be kept from the original truck and put onto the new cab to work with the original drivetrain. Such as what if the donor cab truck had a 351 engine? Can the computer and other such modules be switched out and plugged in?
You want to keep your computer, Anything same body style will FIT. Your computer will slide right into the new cab (Not sure on 96). Your computer controls and is tuned to your entire drivetrain. Transmission included. In order to retain all the options of the old cab, I would be looking for something very close to what you have. Example: Cruise, A/C, Automatic Trans, Manual 4x4 linkage. If you find a straight trade. Your Job won't be too bad. You'll certainly want a vehicle lift or a gradall or something to rig to. Be prepared for new cab bolts (7/16 gr8 allthread works too). Don't just buy a cab. Either find a donor truck or buy the cab WITH FRONT CLIP AND FENDERS with harness. from a wrecker. There is A LOT to getting the front fenders and front clip off these. I took one apart just for fenders, for a friend, and I would be hard pressed getting it back together getting paid. It's just something that would be worth the extra cash vs potentially getting overwhelmed and quitting. Good luck sir.
