Carpet Questions

1964 Ford F 100 regular cab, step inside of cab.

im doing some interior work, actually planning and buying parts. I have some questions about the carpet. As you know, my 64 has the step up when you open the door. When I buy a carpet, will I have to trim around the step or is the step area already cut and molded into the carpet?
will the edges around the step area be rough cut or bound for a nice look? Does anyone sell the original trim piece for around the step area? I have seen them, but there never available anymore.
the step, is there a Matt or premoulded carpet to prevent scratching the paint when stepped on?
thank you!

The ACC carpets that most retailers sell do not have the step area cut out. I used a razor guided by the step edge to trim the carpet, then flamed it real quick with a MAP torch to keep the fibers from fraying. It trimmed pretty cleanly (I got the option with "mass" backing) I was planning to get it bound somehow, but after all the work to get it fitted, I wasn't about to remove it. Thought about finding some adhesive edging, or...? My truck's not a show stealer, and I got accustomed to the thin rough edge pretty quick, so wasn't trying too hard to find a solution. NTL, I saw the trim piece in a photo on this site, and found them on Carolina Classics, like your photo. Just installed them last weekend.
They are CNC machined billet AL. Relatively thick and robust - they won't bend. However I suspect the soft metal is going to get beat-up over time. I'm not sure if the originals are thinner steel, anyway I don't feel like these are so thick that they are out of place. Tool marks remain on the backside, and they are scotchbrite "line grained" on the front side. It's bare aluminum, so the finish is mottled. The chrome look photo on the website is not what I received. I bought Autosol aluminum polish to see if that brings it in even and shiny -not arrived yet, will try it next weekend, but don't have my hopes up, since bare AL is not a great material. These could be anodized for a clean AL finish, or nickel plated for a bright finish. I've done tons of AL finishing in my career - if you want them to look real nice, it's important to get the surface smooth and consistent before plating. If you want bright nickel to look close to chrome, It's important to work with your plater on your goals.
