Aside from the F-5,crest line and Mustang , I’ve picked up a 76 F250 Hi Boy, trying to sort out trim and what I have, but seems there is a plethora of names or styles.from Lariat to Pioneer, , TU tone to camper, which pretty much ruled out..
Custom and Overlander are the two that I need info on..Is there something on the vin tag for ID..Do these apply to the 76 model year.
Any leads on finding info, to get this one close to what it was off the line

Probably a custom but over the years who knows what's been added or deleted. the information on your door tag will tell you what it was. the Marti report will tell you everything you might want to know.
Could be anything as most any trim was available on most any truck. Lariat was later, xlt was all years. Cant tell from the outside Other than Ranger had chrome on the gutters and Custom had a splice where the upper and rear gutters meet. But, like previously mentioned, most anything could be had and both trim levels could be fully loaded, chrome delete, or a mix match.

mine is a us tomorrow, and I don't know what you mean about a slice between gutters? .
the trim on the driprail is 1 piece .
I would love to have that truck just the way it sets, even with the white spoke wagon wheels on it. Looks like it just needs a good wet sand and buff, then will look amazing. Nice truck and great find for sure. But I also understand wanting to make it as original as possible. That is what I am doing with a 78 F150 currently. Very expensive and I'll probably never get what I have in it back out. When I was looking for all of the information for mine, I had a Marti Report done on it. Has everything listed that it came with from the factory and even what dealership it was sold from when new. Of course, with you dealing with Mustangs you probably already know this. Either way, good luck with your restoration on that truck.

If the driprail came with chrome then the trim itself is one piece. If you remove the trim, you will see that the gutter is 2 pieces, the forward flat horizontal part and then the vertical and rounded arch that meets the forward horizontal. A lot of the customs, esp base model, didn't come with the chrome trim on the driprail. In that case, there is a plate that is welded to that joint. Rangers had the chrome but with the customs it was hit and miss.
If it is still the original benchseat, there was always a "buildsheet" put in the undersprings but to get to it you have to remove the seat to get it upside down, I've also found a paper slip behind the dash once that hadn't deteriorated but it was a weird one that needed to be "deciphered" which I never did because I wasn't doing a show quality resto on a daily driver, and I only found it because I had removed the whole dash.
Ive found em in weird places too. Found one in the well where the LF cab mount bolt lives. From what I understand, the sheet was to tell the line workers what parts to include during assembly and was to be thrown out when final assembly was completed. My best guess is the seat was the last piece installed and it was easier to stuff it than have an overflowing waste bin.
