The hydraulic brakes are good for the truck's GVWR. You need trailer brakes, especially if you are going over 10,000lbs, in which case you are in CDL territory and with a CDL should be very well schooled in "Brake".
Electric trailer brakes are fine, as long as things are in order.
The thing is, you won't know if it has any brakes at all until you pull the wheels and see what you have and check the drums.
New drums are not available. All the rest can be had at NAPA and other sources, including reman'd hydro-vacs.
It will be a process to go over her completely. I'm not just going to get it running and throw it on the road. But am I at a dead end for axle information?
I have to search old posts as my source doesn't have axle codes. Someone else might have the info, or I might find it.
IF my theory on a single speed axle is correct, it's been swapped.
More tomorrow.
One thing about the C series--billions served. LOTS of fire trucks. They come on the market pretty cheap, they are almost all low mile, and the fire equipment can be tossed and you have a pretty good condition cab & chassis. Many have the Super Duty engines, which should be avoided. (parts are real tough to get) So if you are shopping C series, if this one has the dump bed set up you like, you can move that over to another chassis. Buy two or three if you like. (channeling my dad who died with an unfinished C600 project, as well as another truck, both sitting there for several decades)
