The Modular "front main" seal tool
I was loaned one and decided to reverse engineer (that's the Chicom term for "copy") it for myself. Note I'm not saying this makes sense financially. I WANTED to do it because it's FUN for me. I'm a guy and I ENJOY building things with my hands...well, and some machine tools.
Roughing in the 4140 blank - free from my steel yard 'cause i only needed 3" length
OD complete, onto the ID
Roughing the ID with big MT3 3-flute. Finished out later w boring bar
Broaching the 1/4" keyway
Completed front view
Completed rear view
Almost a deep fake but for my pathetic stamping job
There's no key on these cranks but one nice thing about the tool is that it mimics the balancer on the ID of the seal making it nearly impossible for the spring to pop out of place while pounding.
