Heater duct problem!

Hi all, I have this 2018 F450 with a 6.7 powerstroke and when you turn the heat on, I have good heat coming out the passenger side, but only a little heat coming out the drivers side vent or defrost, makes no difference which setting you put it on. Thought I would check here to see if anyone has come across this. It is out of warranty. Did the basic checks, coolant, made sure the heater blend door opens and closes good, left the little motor off and just left it in the hot position for now. The vent control is working, I can make it go from defrost to vent to heater good. If I put it on vent and close the vents on the passenger side, it does give more heat to the drivers vents.

You may have already checked this part, but it may be related to your issue.

Does this just affect the diesels?

If you referring to the little controller motor, I am not sure if it's specific to diesels only. It would seem to me that it would be common to both gas and diesels. Hopefully there is a Ford Technician who can chime in.

Seems like this controller motor is located in a very vulnerable location and was my first thought when I read the original post.

I know one would think so. Got me wanting to check for full cam movement as I feel my 7.3 gasser has a weak heat blowing out from driver side as well.

I wonder if there is one of these little controllers directing or diverting air from a supply source to the windshield vent, the dash vent and the floor vent. If there is another controller motor, like the one in the video, maybe it is not getting full rotation and getting stuck in between two exit vents paths.

I was curious about where Driver Side Temperature Door Actuator was located and took a look at my repair CD. Turns out the actuator discussed in the video posted above is the one that control the vent for the driver side, even though it is located under the dash on the passenger side. Looks like that may be a good place to start to resolve your issue.

That must be for the dual heat system, on this one, it controls both sides.

Yes, depends on dual control heat mode if you have it or not. Turn off dual control, see what you see on each side by measuring the air temp. If its the same, its the dual control blend door. Mine blows flames both sides as selected.

I’d put money on a blend door. I’ve had it happen to 3 or 4 super duties.

I won't, I'll be sure to report back, it will take a while to get the truck back in the shop.

That is what I was thinking, but the only seems to be one control for the heat blend door. I'll do a heater core flush first and see if I notice anything, then I may do the TSB, which calls for replacing the heater core and flushing the cooling system. I did order a blend door motor and cam, just to eliminate that possibility.

One would think it has everything to do with dual heat control not allowing drivers side, blockage, or duct damage. My moneys on an actuator.

I removed the blend door accuator and moved the control by hand and it didn't change anything. Like I mentioned before, there is a TSB for the heater core becoming partially plugged, so when they can drop the truck off, we'll check that...
