Ok, so my cruise control would be rolling along and just cut out.
Sometimes, I could hit RESUME and it would kick back in.
Sometimes, I could press RESUME or SET over and over and it would eventually engage.
Well, it finally stopped engaging completely. No indicator light or anything. I've tried the self-diagnostic, but it won't enter that mode at all. The deactivator switch on my master cylinder is good. I'm getting power to it as well. Any ideas?
2000 All original. 2WD 5.4L (Don't laugh.)
The deactivator switch on my master cylinder is good
Yeah, I wouldn't bet on that, it's an extremely high failure rate part, especially if it hasn't already been replaced in the last few years. You can unplug the main harness connector from it (or the recall harness, if present) and install a jumper to test to see if the system works with it bypassed.
Well, the deactivator switch is an NC switch. With an ohmmeter connected, it shows a closed circuit, so that checks out. Stepping on the pedal shows an open circuit.
What am I missing?
Was the cruise recall done on the vehicle? Is the wire harness intact? Clockspring? Dirty switches in the steering wheel? Can a 5.4L really move that much weight?
