Don't know about the Allison...
but the 6.0 - 5 speed combo had one of the flashes address the 2 to 1 hard downshift...
most say it fixed it, I've not had a problem with it....
I was under the impression that Ford collaborated with Allison on the new 5-speed... guess I was wrong. In any event, the transmission is fantastic so far, except for the hard downshift.
I guess I'll wait a few more months to let all of these flashes settle down and go in for an update.
YES MINE SOMETIMES DOWNSHIFTS REALY HARD SCARES U ALMOST LIKE SOMEONE REAR-ENDED YOU!!ANOTHER PROBLEM I HAV IS WHEN GOING FROM LIKE PARK TO REVERSE OR DRIVE TO REVERSE IT TAKES A COUPLE SECONDS TO ENGAGE ANYONE ELSE DOIN IT???
Yep my truck did that a few times from drive to rev/park to drive.
I have a 12' cabover camper that stays on the truck all the time and we take it up in the sierras almost every weekend, Iv found that the harder your on the brake the harder the downshift so when i want it to downshift i just apply a Little bit of brake and the downshift goes smooth.
Funny this thread came up. Just today I noticed a "jerk" when slowing down to about 17 MPH. I figured it was a hard downshift. This truck has never done this before. It did this for about the next 8 miles, then stopped the hard downshifts. Strange. . . .
The delay in the tranny engaging from drive to reverse and reverse to drive is to keep those 550 lb/ft of torque from ripping the tranny out of the truck. It worried me too the first few times it happened, but the tech at my "good" dealership told me it was designed that way. Makes sense to me.
Which is exactly what happened to my '02 7.3L 4 speed....
Went from first to reverse on a downslope with a LITTLE too much emphasis and POW - the tranny grenaded !
