While renewing my felt window channels I noticed the driver side, rear channel runs at a different angle vertically than the passenger side, i.e. the bottom of the passenger side is right at the outer door skin and thee driver side is about an inch and a half inboard from the door skin. It appears to be factory but it has been messed with at some time. Is that factory and why would they be different? The bracket riveted to the bottom of the channel that has an "L" shaped leg that in turn is spot welded to the inside of the door jamb. It looks like that bracket could be used left or right depending on which way it is rotated. Mine are both oriented the same way. This all started with a vent window replacement and things did not seem right going back in so I dug in further. I either found something that needs fixing, or dug myself into a hole. Any thoughts?
Not an F1 guy but that sounds a little odd. How do the windows roll up and down on each side? Normally a window will bind if the front and rear channels are not in alignment...that is unless the felts are extremely worn.
Sorry if I repeat myself here:
Everything seemed to operate well... until I took things apart to replace the pivot on the driver side wing window (actually found an N.O.S. pivot online!). I decided to also replace the channel felts so I disassembled both sides. While doing that, I noticed the driver side division bar was installed out of position on the bottom, completely out of the mount bracket holes, just pinching the edge of the bracket. At some point, I assume the PO removed the head of the rivet on he bottom mount of the rear channel and the channel was not attached. Then I started comparing side to side and I saw the difference. Being the type that if something does not look right, I want to make it right, I am going to try to temporarily assemble things like I think they should be and see if that works. I understand now why the bottom was loose, but cannot figure why it needed to be after all these years since it looks as if it came out of the factory that way. Maybe it was a 'Monday morning' assemble.
