is there a supercharger off of another ford car or truck that i can go to the junk yard and look for and bolt on my explorer. if so what year and model should i look for.
Nothing will just bolt up to an Explorer engine off another vehicle. You can make just about any supercharger work, but there will be a lot of fab time involved for brackets, etc.
Right now, there are only 2 kits available for Explorer's: Explorer Express makes a roots style based off an Eaton M90 (the one I have), and Powerdyne has a kit.
The only choice right now for the 4.0 is the BBK... It has a pretty good dollar sign attached also...
You could pull an Eaton M62 (I think thats right) off a Thunderbird SC. Then you would have to fab it to fit.
-Lower intake
-Pulley mounts
-Nose mount
-Rear intake into supercharger
-Belt routing
-and a lot of other smaller things (hose routings, vaccum lines, etc.)
For a 91 X, I might look around some of the Ranger sites and see what some of those guys have come up with.
For the money it will take to fab a kit for any s/c you decide on - you could buy & build a 302 and put in your X. If you are wanting power, that is what I would do. There are a lot more options going that way than trying to get power out of a 4.0...
