Hi
this is my 1st post i just bought a 89 4dr. bronco and i want to use it for towing but wanted to know my options on better brakes since i want to tow a 20' car trailer and i dont think the stock 1/2 ton setup will work that great.Any options would be appreacited.Or am i better off swapping 3/4 or 1 ton stuff in? I'm totallly new to fords so bare with me.thanks rich
Also looking at rebuilding the 351 motor if any one has good ideas.I want alot of torque but still would like good milage is that possible?
Well do a search and look for rear break conversion.
It will change it Drum to Disc.
Also you can look into the DUAL caliper setup of the f250/350's, which i think would need a new mount. But i have no idea about the exact setup of the 250's.
If the trailer has some sort of brakes on it the 1/2 ton brakes should work just fine. I have a 96 F-150 ext cab 5.8(351w) and I tow my kubota tracter on a 20ft trailer and the brakes on my truck do just fine
yes the trailer has electric brakes.i plan on trying it hooked up and see how they work.i just dont want the o-***** thing happening when the brakes arent good enough.since i will use it for long hauls.i think the brakes are kinda soft now maybe they just need a rebuild.thanks for all the quick responses.rich
Disc brakes ARE more efficient than drum. More clamping power and less bulk so heat dissapates faster. Drum brakes last longer in the rear because the natural shift in weight to the front of the vehicle puts more stress on the front brakes. This is the very reason most modern vehicles have disc brakes on the front...because they are more efficient and inherently do more of the stopping. Rear disc gives you that much more stopping power. TSM makes a fairly well priced and maunfactured system. http://tsmmfg.com/2530M.htm
