Haynes does a real good job of illustrating the SPOUT connector. There's a bunch of connectors under the hood. Where is it? What colors are the wires and the connector? I'm trying to time the motor because my plugs were white and the exhaust out the pipe is VERY hot to the touch. Thanks.
if its TFI ignition it should be right there at the distributor in the wries coming from the TFI modual on the distr., If your has the ignition modual on the drivers side fender apron, then it should be tape up in the wireing harness right there at the ignition modual on the fender apron, the mod should be silver and look kinda like a heat sink. hope this helps. DW
Would an overly low timing setting cause the plugs to be white or should I still be looking for something else? The pipe exit is still VERY hot. It was weird when I did the plugs though. 1,2,3,5,6,7 were white. 4 and 8 were normal. When I say white, I mean dusted, not white and corroded like the back of a Haynes or Chiltons says and pictures like there is too much heat but it still boggled me.
Oh yes, most definately. Running the timing to retarded causes a lot of excess heat. A good example is when I had my new motor installed on my bronco the timing was set with out the spout connector pulled out. All I did was went to the bottom of a small hill and back up and the headers were glowing cherry red. the timing was set very retarded and the more retarded its set the more heat it will causes.
I disconet the batt. for 10-15 mins. to clear the codes, then id drive it around some see how it does if you start getting spark knock/ping then id go see if it logged any code and maybe start looking into a possible (lean condition) with your fuel. Good luck DW
