Alternator overcharging 01 Ford e350

Alternator overcharging 01 Ford e350

I’ve got an 01 Ford e350 super duty colt club wagon with 163k miles that I’ve converted to a camper.

I’m about to install an alternator charger for my house(auxiliary) battery and I figured it would be best to test the alternator before I hook it up.

Here are my voltages:
Battery w/ van off: 13.3v
Van on (idle, no load): 14.6-14.8v
Van idle with brights, radio, and heat on: 14.6v

The battery is from 2012. And I’m not sure if that will play a factor. Also, the terminals are a bit funky with a little bit of corrosion (not much.

What steps should I take to troubleshoot this?

Those numbers look very good, typical charging/running voltage is between 14-14.8v

I've been reading that the battery should be at 12.4-12.9v when off, and 14-14.5v when the vehicle is running. Is it different with the e350?

The charging voltage will be the same between truck and van, if you measure the battery voltage after the truck was running you will see a float voltage on the battery, if you wait about 1/2 hour and check again you should see the battery around the 12.8v area.

Check the accuracy of your meter....

It tests out my house battery perfectly. So, I assume its correct.
